If you are on social media, you have seen this post (pictured below) which has gone absolutely viral today. The post has garnered more than 26 million views and counting, and outrage over the subject matter—surveillance technology coming to every American car—is trending on all platforms.
The tweet is alarming and also scant on details, so I had to sit down this afternoon and get to the bottom of the story. I read about the patents and reviewed the U.S. Code mandating this new technology within the next few years. I hope you read my quick synopsis here:
2021 was a particularly rough time. It is no overstatement to say that the America First movement was shell-shocked and a little unresponsive to general political matters as it tried to absorb the defamatory rhetoric and aggression of the Biden administration. I suspect that “kill switch,” which is how groups like the Heritage Foundation were using to describe the mandate, also sounded hyperbolic and unbelievable to many, when, in reality, the truth was even worse: a full-scale surveillance system in every car. Whatever caused Americans to miss this one, we need to take the opportunity today to spread the word and push for a repeal.
